Nothing to Snooze At: Exploring the Mysteries of Hibernation

چکیده
Hibernation,a form of cold-adaptationfoundpimarify in rmmrmhn “ species, involvesmarked declines in bcdy temperature, heart rate, respiration, and metabolicrate. WehaveidentifiedseveralISI@research fronts related to hibernation, including thersnogenesis(heat production), thermoregufation, and other forms of cold-adaptation. Many aspects of hibernation remain unexplained, and researchers continue to investigate its effects, as well as potential biochemical applications.

SNOOZE: Toward a Stateful NetwOrk prOtocol fuzZEr
Fuzzing is a well-known black-box approach to the security testing of applications. Fuzzing has many advantages in terms of simplicity and effectiveness over more complex, expensive testing approaches. Unfortunately, current fuzzing tools suffer from a number of limitations, and, in particular, they provide little support for the fuzzing of stateful protocols. In this paper, we present SNOOZE, ...
متن کاملHibernation Proteins: Preparing for Life in the Freezer
Hibernation is an extreme response to a seasonal environment, yet we know almost nothing about how it is timed or how vital cellular functions are sustained in the face of plummeting body temperature. In this issue of Cell, kondo et al. (2006) identify a liver-derived protein complex as an essential coordinator of this adaptation to the depredations of winter.
متن کاملThe Relationship of Sleep with Temperature and Metabolic Rate in a Hibernating Primate
STUDY OBJECTIVES It has long been suspected that sleep is important for regulating body temperature and metabolic-rate. Hibernation, a state of acute hypothermia and reduced metabolic-rate, offers a promising system for investigating those relationships. Prior studies in hibernating ground squirrels report that, although sleep occurs during hibernation, it manifests only as non-REM sleep, and o...

Myocardial ischemia (MI) resulting in infarction is an important cause of mortality and morbidity worldwide. Acute ischaemia rapidly impairs myocardial contractile function. Myocardial dysfunction persisting for several hours after transient non-lethal ischaemia, eventually resulting in full functional recovery is termed as myocardial stunning. Hibernation is now thought to be...

Numerous investigations demonstrate that the problem of corruption in the health sector is enormous and has grave negative consequences for patients. Nevertheless, the problem of corruption in health systems is far from eminent in the international health policy debate. Hutchinson, Balabanova, and McKee have identifed in their Editorial five reasons why the health policy community has been relu...
